Skelly Hodgepodge: The Roadschooling Squirrel

June 1, 2020 Brad Kresge

In addition to Prodigal Overland, our family has been working on a roadschooling website that highlights our travels and learning adventures from the kids’ perspectives. We have developed a fictional character, named Skelly Hodgepodge. He is a squirrel that travels with us and tells stories of his adventures teaching kids about the people we meet and the places we see. The site has nature crafts, field trips, stories and more. Check it out at www.skellyhodgepodge.com

Below is a little preview of the website.

Hi Kids! My Name is Skelly,

Skelly Hodgepodge.

I like to explore new places, learn about history and meet new people. I am personally inviting you to join me as I travel throughout North America and collect stories of the adventures I have, the facts I learn and the people I meet.

My travel companions are 3 siblings that have been gracious enough to let me stow-away in their migrating home. These siblings are unlikely companions as they are humans, but despite our first encounter (A rather tumultuous experience that I will share at a different time), we have become great friends and partners in crime… I mean… in fun! :)

Meet the Traveling Kids:

They make my adventures possible!

CALEB

The oldest is Caleb. Caleb is my favorite 14 year old. Despite his expert marksmanship (again, a story for another time!), he is always making me laugh. His creative stories and silly stunts can make anyone smile. In addition, he is really good at making up games for us to play with each other and he is learning amateur photography. I will be sure to have him share some of his talents with you all!

NORAH

The only girl in the bunch is Norah. She is an 11 year old, out-of-the-box thinker, who is always experimenting and creating new things with items she finds on her adventures. Keep an eye out for her Nature Crafts. Who knows where her imagination will lead!?

SAMMY

And the youngest is an 8 year old energizer bunny.OK, he is not really a bunny, he is just an energetic boy who has an appetite for adventure. His name is Sammy and you never quite know what he will be up to, but whatever it is, I am sure it will be good!

All of them LOVE animals! That is why they have adopted me as their traveling companion and why we have become like family!

See what adventures Skelly and his Roadschool Crew have been up to by visiting his site. He loves to collaborate with kids and families all over the world and to share their creations, talents and stories.

Take me to Skelly!!
