Sante Fe National Forest was our first weeklong boondocking adventure when we hit the road full-time.
We were still in our Rockwood Roo hybrid travel trailer and towing with our 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Our rig had no generator, but we did have our portable solar panel and Li Battery that gave us enough power to charge devices and run lights when needed. Our tanks were smaller than we have now which is why we had to be extremely careful about water conservation and usage.

If you have spent any time in the Panhandle of Texas you have most likely heard of Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Palo Duro Canyon and the 2nd largest canyon in the US and is worth a visit! But about an hour south of there is another canyon that we thought was impressive as well. Caprock Canyon hosts the Official Bison Heard of Texas, displays a beautiful ‘Spanish Skirt’ on the canyon ways and is teaming with prairie dogs that entertain for hours. Who doesn’t love to watch prairie dogs?!

Today we will talk about Mammoth Caves National Park in Kentucky. This was the first national park we ever visited in our trailer. We were actually on our way back to Dallas after picking it up from the factory in Ohio. It was a last minute stop and happened to be during peak season, which meant we were not able to take any special tours because they were all sold out. We could, however, do the self-guided tour which brought us into the large mouth of the cavern. We were in awe of its massive size and learned a ton from the rangers that were stationed throughout. Needless to say, our appetites were wet and we set our minds on returning to this park to do some more exploring!
