Broken Arrow Trail: Sedona, AZ
We strolled into town just as the Corona Virus shutdowns were beginning. Trails and public land were still open but commercial businesses were limited. As a result, tourist companies and group off-roading rides were not allowed. This meant we had the trails practically to ourselves and gave us the unique opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful trails we have ever done-
Broken Arrow Trail in Sedona, Arizona!
This trail had everything to make for a perfect day for our family. Beautiful scenery, desert plants in bloom, red rock, wildlife and off-road adventure! If you have a chance to do this trail, either by 4-wheeled drive or with your own two feet, we highly recommend it. If you choose to do the 4-wheeled drive trail, make sure you have appropriate clearance. There are some rocks to be climbed!
The Devil’s staircase
The Devil’s staircase was not only fun for our Jeep, but ended up being one of the best outdoor playgrounds for our kids. Norah and Sam had a blast wearing holes in their clothes as they slid down the rocks over and over again! Lauren was really hoping to come back for a second day and do some hiking, but Corona sanctions changed quickly and so did our plans. We are looking forward to a chance to return to this beautiful trail in the future!
Off-Road Details on Broken Arrow Trail
Location: Sedona, AZ
Length: 2.9 mile loop
Our Difficulty Rating: Moderate - The Devil’s Staircase is the hardest obstacle and can be avoided if you desire. Wet conditions could easily turn it into a difficult obstacle as the Red Rock is already slippery in dry conditions.
Recommended Equipment: Skid plating, rock rails, and high clearance. A lower front guard would be helpful or at least removal of your front fascia.
Jeep Badge of Honor Trail: No
Additional Information: This is an absolutely stunning trail. A great one to take your nature loving friends and family on while still having that off-road adventure. It is however, highly trafficked when Covid Restrictions are not in place. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. There are various hiking trails that can be done as well and it is worth getting out of your vehicle to take in the views at the top of Chicken Point. This is Lauren’s favorite trail.
